What is BOMA

BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) is an industry standard for measuring and accounting for the square footage of commercial buildings. The BOMA standard defines several different measurement methods, including the use of "rentable" square footage and "usable" square footage. Rentable square footage is the total area of a building or floor that can be leased to tenants, while usable square footage is the actual space that is available for use by a tenant within the rentable square footage. BOMA measurements also takes into account common areas like corridors, elevator lobbies, and stairwells, and assigns a percentage of those areas to each tenant based on the proportion of rentable square footage they occupy. This allows for a fair and consistent method of determining the amount of space that a tenant is paying for.
